SALE OF MALA.

VETERINARY TEST PASSED.

SYDNEY, Aug. 10. Mala was given a test gallop ut Randwick to-day in tho presonce of a veterinary surgeon, who examined 'him and passed him for sale.

The Woodville owner-trainer, Mr If. E. Russell, has sold tho Now Zealandbred three-year-old Mala to Mr Alan Cooper for £7OOO. Mala is a four-year-old colt by Lackham from Lucretia, and ran second to Talking in both the A.J.C. and the V.R.C. Derbies last season. After winning the blue ribbon at Randwick Mr Cooper bought Talking for £19,000 and Talking returned some of his purchase money by annexing the three-year-old classic at Fiemington. Mala won his first race in Australia last week, when lie accounted for the Tellers’ Flying Handicap, six and a half furlongs, at Victoria Park, Sydney. Mala has been galloping brilliantly on the Randwick track, and is reported to be in great trim. He went over with the same team as Golden Treasure, who was' also sold by Mr Russell for a substantial figure to an Australian buyer. It was stated during litigation proceedings recently in Sydney that Mala would probably have won the last Melbourne Cup but for being injured by a tram. He is engaged this season in both the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups, being one of the early favourites for both events.
