BUSH FATALITY.
AT TABLE FLAT. (From Our Own Correspondent.) v APITI, Aug. 10. The death occurred yesterday afternoon of Mr It. James, ar» elderly man and we 1known in this district. In company with Mr O. Pus-ell, deceased was engaged in felling a tree on a bush farm at Table Flat. As it fell, the brandies of tho tree (a tolnra) became entangled in another tioe and it wiis decided to fell r second tree" to release It. The totara. which was rotten, suddenly snapped arid fell pinning Mr James to a stump beneath it. DCcased was extremely deaf, and though he endeavoured to leap aside ns the tree fell, he was too late. It was impossible to move the tree, so Mr Pus-ell hastened to saw it through in an effort Id relieve the weight on deceased’s chest. It was evident, however that death had been instnntane r, and Mr Pussel’. then left to obtain Ido 4 doctor and the police visited the scone and the body was brought out by cnrlv c-cuing to the home of deceaseds sister, Mrs 10. 11. Ciirnmerfield, in Apiti.
