FARMING NEWS.

RURAL RAKINGS. Great Britain spent about £1,500,000 less on Danish bacon last year than in the previous 12 months, but more eggs and dairy products were bought, so that payments for Danish agricultural produce actually increased by approximately £3,300,000. Throe scientists will be sent to Queensland immediately by the Australian Council for Scientific and Industrial Research to assist graziers to overo. mo the problem of biowfly in sheep, which is causing heavy losses in many parts of that State. Dr Bull, chief of the animal health division of tl’io council, agreed to this course when requested by the Australian Wool Board at a meeting in. Melbourne recently. Cattle, when th*y are sick, may be said to make less interesting patients than horses, as they have a more stolid temperament and are likely to be obstinate In the case of food, however, they do not need the same amount of coaxing. In fact, in dealing with cattle of a fat type where stomach disorders ar c the cause of the illnoss, actual starving can often be resorted to with advantage. Generally speaking, cattle are oasior to drench than horses,' and this is fortunate, for the necessity for drenching arises fairly frequently .and a large quantity; of fluid has to be given. In dealing with digestive disturbances in cattle it must bo remembered that a certain amount of coarse fibre— dry hay and grass—is necessary to restore proper functioning of the stomach and' rumination. Therefore,, a little coarse material should always be given, even though fluids must for the time be the staple diet.
