MINISTER’S TOUR
WORK FOR MARRIED MEN. ALLEVIATING" DISTRESS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. Satisfaction at the response that had been made to his efforts to place married men in useful work was expressed by the aeting-Minister of Labour* Hon. P. Webb, who returned from a visit to Wanganui and Taranaki, where he conferred with local bodies. “I have now practically completed my tour of local bodies of the North Island and principal places in the South Island,” he said. “I sot out about six weeks ago to place 7000 married men in work for four months. I am pleased to say that as a result of the co-operation of local bodies that number has been placed. In some of the smaller towns almost every married man available for work has been given four months’ full-time work to start with.”
Referring to single men, Mr Webb said there certainly was a considerable number of them fit for any class of work, but a lurge number were too old to work. He was hoping to make suitable arrangements to alleviate tho distress existing among single men.
