STATE HOUSES
DRAINAGE CRITICISED. LOWER HUTT OBJECTIONS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 9. The methods of drainage adopted by the Government Housing Department for tho LoAver Hutt scheme came in for strong criticism at a meeting of the Borough Council to-night, Avhen it Avas decided to protest to the department and to refrain in the meantime from connecting Government houses to the borough main by the method proposed. The system Avas stated to be contrary to the borough by-IaAVS. Tho Mayor (Mr J. W. AndreAVs) said ho had discussed the question of the drainage of Government houses with tho borough engineer, Avho had submitted an adverse report, and be had also been in touch Avith the contractor.
“I move,” 6aid the Mayor, “that avo protest to tho department against the method adopted as it is contrary to good practice and detrimental to health; that Ave invoke the aid of the Health Department, if necessary, and that Ave connect none of the drains to the borough main Aintil the outcome of the protest is knoAvn.” Tht motion Avas carried.
