NEWS OF SPRINGBOKS’ WIN. EFFICIENT SERVICE. Per Press Association. WELL!NGTON, Aug. 9. By installing two teleprinters at Athletic Park on Saturday the Telegraph Department'gave a very efficient service in handling the Press reports of the Springboks match. In addition, the department gained experience which will bo valuable in enabling it to complete its plans for handling the even heavier traffic when the Test match is played next Saturday. Altogether, 5000 words, including 2000 words of cable messages for overseas, were dispatched from Athletic Park during last Saturday’s game. Or this, over 4000 words wero handled from half-time onwards with a minimum of delay.
The teleprinters, which are capable of transmitting 66 words a minute, were in direct contact with the Auckland and Wellington offices, from which the messages were retransmitted throughout New Zealand as well as overseas. The half-time and final scores would be known in Sydney, for instance, within a matter of a minute or two after the conclusion of each spell.
