SPRINGBOKS’ MATCH.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—l was very pleased to see in Saturday’s paper the remarks by “Front Row” on the refereeing in the Springbok game last Wednesday. Not only were at least two of the Africans’ tries scored as a result of offside play, but there were numerous glaring examples of obstruction for which the visitors were never once penalised. Again, nine out of every ten scrums were conducted in an irregular manner, the referee being on the opposite side. The ball was very rarely Hooked, the procedure being for the African hookers to screw the scrum and then lack the ball right into the hands oi their half-back who was waiting, very conveniently, at the side of the scrum instead of being in his correct position at the rear. I understand the referee concerned is among the select few who have been nominated to referee the “digusted.
