FELL INTO HOT POOL.

MAORI “WOMAN’S DEATH, Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Aug. 9. Dragged from a hot pool by her husband, who was himself badly scalded in the process, Mrs Merana Konui. aged 38, a Maori woman, died in the Rotorua Hospital yesterday following shock and severe scalds received when she fell backwards into a thermal pool at Ohinenmtu on Saturday night. Mrs Konui, accompanied by her husband and another man. went to a hot pool used by the natives as a hath. She left the hath before the other two and was sitting on a rock ledge a short distance nwav when she suddenly appeared to fall backwards into a small, very hot pool on the other side of the rock.

Braving the hot water, her husband jumped into the pool and dragged the unfortunate woman out, lifting her oyer the edge with the assistance of his companion before he himself collapsed. Airs Konui was unconscious when admitted to hospital and died at noon the following day. Mr Konui was also admitted to hospital, hut his injuries are not so serious and it is considered that he will recover.
