PAHIATUA.
PAHIATUA, Aug. 7. Mr and Mrs W. R. Taylor and Mr 11. Taylor have returned from Sydney. Mr R. V.'rdiner has returned f ini Hawke’s Bay. Mr J. A. Walsh is a Pahiatua visitor to Wanganui. Mr and Mrs S. K. Siddells, who have been spending a few days in Woffington, have returned home.
In a senior Rugby match under the controi of the Bush Union, Mangatainoka beat Alfredton by default. In the junior gome for the Cowan Cup Pahiatua beat Ngaturi by 14 points to nil. In the absence of Mrs Paterson, Mrs J. D. Wilson presided over tho monthly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Mrs Wilson read a memorial to the late Mi&s M. Moore, a former president of the Palmerston North Union, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect to one much beloved by members. Members spoke in praise of Rev. J. D. Smith. Presbyterian minister, in bringing forward a resolution to be sent to the Rugby unions requesting their co-operation in refusing admission to football matches of people under the influence of liquor, and also that the attention of the Railway Department be drawn to the amount of liquor carried on excursion trains. Several Pahiatua ladies participated in an open medal and bogey competition on the I-lokowhilu (Palmerston North) golf links last week. Playing conditions were difficult owing to the high wind. At the conclusion Mrs J. C. Young, president of the Manawatu club, presented trophies and congratulated the recipients, giving the Pahiatua ladies a warm invitation to participate in future tournaments.
