From Our Own Correspondent. APITI, Aug. 9. ODDFELLOWS’ DANCE. Owing to the fact, no doubt, that a very large number of Apiti people nau visited Palmerston North for the Springboks’ match, and remained for other attractions the previous evening, the attendance at the Oddfellows’ annual dance on Thursday was very poor. However, tnose who were present spent an enjoyable even ing dancing to music supplied By a professional orchestra from town. The IVI.O. s were Mqssrs N. J. Viles and D. Kearney. Among those present were Mesdames McLean, who wore primrose satin; K. A. Pruicfl.li. navv blue floral taffeta; J. L*. Osborne, black velvet; N. J Vilfa, ivory satin and lacc; R. Viles, black lace an(> georgette; W. Hooper, peach floral gotto; Pcrneilum, black silk marocain; Misses -Marie McKay, apple green flora taffeta; Madgo McKay, mauve taffeta and violet- trimming; R. Thompson ((Rangiwahia), black taffeta; M. Thompson (Rangiwahia), pink cloque; A. Ivearney, red self spotted marocain and gold lame; P Hogan, black silk velvet and green cape; E. Bowlcy, daffodil blistered crepe; M. Hooper, green velvet; J. Prince, green sprigged taffeta; D. McEwen, red georgette and silver lame; 0. Hommings lUmutoi), blue tinsel crepe. Members ot the lodge served the supper FOOTBALL. Tho senior Rugby team journeyed to Waituna on Saturday and played a match which was won by Apiti, 11 to nil. Ihe Apiti team was as follows: R. McKay, V. McKenzie, J. McKenzie, D. Kearney, E. Osborne, J. Cantwell, D.. Harland, E. Viles, D. McKenzie, J. Eliot, C. Eliot,, K. Cowan, .T. Wingate, 11. Cowan, and T Walker. Tho referee was Mr N. Short, of Waituna. Tho ground was in good order and- it was an _ interesting gamo. Neither side was fielding a team of its usual strength. Tries were scored by D. Harland, E. Osborne, and J. Wingate, and J. McKenzie converted one. T here will be no local football next Saturday. For tho juniors, there was a representative match in Fcilding, when the junior Oroua representatives played Manawatu thirds, Oroua being beaten, 14 to 3. Tho Apiti players in tho Oroua team were: A. Harland, A. Viles, E. Kearney, B. Forbes, and N. Coekburn. GENERAL.
Heavy snow on the ranges and a fair sprinkling in the Apiti township greeted tho settlers on Saturday morning, but it was noticeable that from the Apiti factory onwards in the Feilding direction no snow had fallen. It very quickly disappeared from the foothills.
Tho parents and sister of Mrs A. VV. Bird, Air and Mrs and Miss Chapman, of Masterton, have been week-end guests at tho schooihouse.
