NEW CATHEDRAL
7 COMPETITIVE DESIGN. . AUCKLAND BUILDING. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 6. An eminent English architect, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, 11. A., designer of the Liverpool Cathedral, has been appointed with his prior consent to act as sole assessor in the competition for the design for the Auckland Anglican Cathedral, which is to he erected in Parnell in terms of a large bequest made by the late Miss M. T. Horton. The provisions of Miss Horton’s will require the general trust board of the - Auckland diocese, or other controlling authority to accept a competitive design for the cathedral within seven years of her death, which occurred in May. 1935. "When her trustees are satisfied that the cathedral is to bo built on the site acquired for the purpose in Parnell by Bishop Sehvyn. they have authority to pay out of the trust fund a sum not exceeding £IOOO for the accepted competitive design. The building must be commenced within 10 years of the testator’s death. Miss Horton’s bequest is estimated to produce approximately £60,000.
