SHORTWAVE RADIO
INQUIRY INTO RECEPTION. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Aug. 6. In what measures the Empire shortwave services meet the needs of listeners in New Zealand and tho degree of their shortcomings, if any, are the main reasons behind the visit of Mr J. Beresford Clark, director of Emprie services of the British Broadcasting Corporation, who arrived by the Monterey from Suva He was met by Professor J. Shelley, director of broadcasting in Now Zealand. Mr Clark said lie,found that in the Pacific islands the reception of shortwave programmes from England was rather variable. Although Mr Clark will he in New Zealand for a fortnight only, in that time lie will visit various districts in both islands and discuss with officials and others the Empire shortwave services and their general efficiency trom a Dominion standpoint. He is to leave by the Wanganclla from Auckland on August 18 for Sydney.
