NEW REGULATION AGREED TO. LONDON, Aug. G. After an inquiry lasting seven .'ears a Board of Trade representative _ and ship-owners, officers’ and seamen s organisations have agreed to regulations to abolish “sea slums,” declares Mr Hector Bywater, writing in the Daily Telegraph. The use of the forecastle or seamen’s berths is henceforth forbidden. Accommodation must be pro’idea amidships or aft, as tho forecastle is often a death-trap in the event ol a collision. Bathrooms and hot showers are made compulsory. All foreign-going ships of 2oUu tons or over must have a hospital. Other regulations provide for minimum standards for messrooms, ventilation, lighting and locker accommodation. _____
