The Japanese Government lias cabled the Embassy offering to order the navy to co operate with the American navy in seeking Mrs Putnam. Japanese fishing boats in the vicinity of Howland Island have been instructed to assist in the search. The coastguard division at San braneisco has recommended that the .State Department seek British a6sist.'.inee in addition to H.M.3. Achilles, which is far from the supposed location ot 31 ra Putnam.
