(Froin Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA, July 3. Tile representative basketball play cm are reminded that their practices will be held on Wednesday instead of Tuesday at Kongotea. On Saturday week To Kuwait will meet Fahiatua in a return match. At a mooting of the executive in IlongoLou, All's Wilson Scott presided. There were also pioscnt .Mesdamos G. Beattie, Barker, llobbs, and Miss Hobbs. Messrs J. Hill, A C. Fades and W. Davison. It was decided to hold the annual ball early in August before tbo representative team travels to Auckland. Owing to the fact that, the Monday competition concludes on July 5 the association will hold a scaled handicap competition, to commence on Monday week, any team being allowed to enter, but clubs must state when entering their team whether it be for Monday or Wednesday. Mrs Scott and Airs Beattie were elected handicappers. Airs W. A. Davison was appointed delegate to attend the conference at Auckland during tournament week. Air A. T. Yarrall, of Gisborne, with Airs Yarrall and daughter, is visiting his parents, Air and Airs L. H. Yarrall, Rongotea. Air and Airs It. O. Glovn, accompanied by Aliss E. Hill, have been visiting Wellington. Alcssrs A. Hill and Gibson Mill are on an extensive motor tour of ihe North Island.
The Rongotea Rugby team played another game on their own ground on Saturday against Oroua Downs and won. Orona Downs (yellow), kicked off and play swung backward and forward till, front a scrum in midfield, the blacks heeled out for Saxlon to secure the leather to hand on to Wright, who kicked across field for the black forwards to catch the opposition out of position. From close to their goal line Hardisty secured to dive over in the corner for a try. The yellows were soon back into blacks’ territory and Quinlan secured front a scrummage to cross the line for the visitors. The kick at goal was unsuccessful. Both sides were playing a strenuous game at this stage, Quinlan and Lee doing good work for the Downs, "bile Simonson. Craig, and Churchill were showing to advantage in Rongotea’s vanguard. The yellows found the sun very awkward, particularly when taking a high ball. Tile blacks, taking advantage, drove the yellows back to their own territory. A scrum was formed on the visitors’ twenty-five yard line and the ball worked clear for Churchill to gather it prior to handing on to Cocker, who ran strongly and kicked ahead to race the defenders to the ball and touch down' for a well earned try. With this reverse the yellows livened up ami wore soon within reach of the blacks’ goal line. AfcKcnzic, a recruit High School, was doing good work at full-back for Rongotea, getting bis side out of trouble on several occasions. Eventually a scrum was formed dose to the blacks' goal line; t’nc yellows heeled smartly for the half-back to snap up the ball and go over for a try. The blacks went to tbo attack witlt Gardner and Allen in the lead. Finally, front a kick through. Cocker in a taco to touch down just arrived at the line ahead of two defenders to score his secontl try. The kick at goal failed. Time was called with liongotea the winners by 9 points to 6. Air D. Sherman was referee.
