A MENACE TO PEACE.
ARMAMENTS RACE,
INTERNATIONAL RESOLUTION
BERLIN, July 4
The International Cliambers of Commerce congress, at its final session, passed a series of motions condemning the armaments race as a menace to peace and prosperity, urging the raising of the standard ot living by a better distribution of commodities, and recommending that all countries, as far as possible, should have access to foodstuffs and raw materials without discrimination.
The congress also emphasised that the most favourable opportunity for years was now offered for reducing hindrances to international trade, and demanded that Governments should initiate conversations leading up to conferences to effect the replacement of bilateral with multilateral trade agreements.
A special scries of monetary resolutions urged the stabilisation of exchange control by a return to the gold standard, which increased commodity prices and larger gold production had helped to make possible. Tt also recommended the Governments to seek to solve the problem of international debts of political origin. The British delegation, supported by the French, American, and other delegations. made a reservation not accepting the German view on the Dawes and Young plan debts.
