DRAINAGE WORK
MANAWATU BOARD. The monthly meeting of the Alanawatu Drainage Board was held today, Trustee P. G. Alildon presiding. Also present were Trustees F. J Russell, 11. Tanner, D. Prouse and J Collis.
Accounts totalling £702 14s 2d, including £403 2s 9<l for -drain maintenance, were passed tor payment. Ihe financial statement showed that No. 5 scheme labour was used extensively, the sum refundable by the Employment Board for the month being £IOO 10s. The overdraft at the date of the meeting was £1365 Is. The overseer said that good work had been done in cleaning drains b.v subsidised labour, and with tin’s statement I can wifely sav,” he added, “that 1 have never seen such a good job.” Mr Tanner: It might cost us a little more, but with such a good job it is cheaper in the long run. The chairman reported satisfactorily with reference to Air P. J. Jamieson’s request respecting the bridge oil Myger’s Line. The work would be done this week. ~ ~ The work requested by Air <-*. Siddell, t'lygen, L.ne. with reference lo the WliioKv Creek deviation, is to be attended to. '1 lie complaint of Air H. l oss that tree stumps were blocking the dram Irom the Eeil-Alatheson lagoon to No. 1 Line was held over in the meantime. Mr llussell reported that the matter of the culvert on Rangitikei Line was one lor the Kairanga County Council, which had the question in hand. The overseer (Mr M. Wilson) reporeed that fair progress was still l>c-ms nude, with the work of Burkes Drain, .v-’veral trees on the hanks had humpetcd the work a little, but this had now been passed. Alost of the drain contracts had been carried out in a satisfactory manner and within the next fortnight should he satislactoi ilv completed. The following drains bad been cleaned by day labour: Carinodys drain No" 1 Aorangi (00 chains), Lancaster’s, Alitchell’s (Karcre), Alanson s, McKenzie Settlement, Gray’s and Sanson's, approximately 60 chains ol No. 4 Line.
