HIKURANGI MINE.

MAY BE CLOSED i'OR GOOD. ASSISTANCE TO BE SOUGHT. Per Press Association. AY HANG AHE I, July 5. As a result of the flood last week the existence of Hikurangi is threatened. The Hikurangi Coal Coy’s, newly-developed mine is so badly flooded that Mr L. J. Stevens, chairman of directors, told Mr R. Nesbitt, chairman of the Hikurangi Town Board, that the mine is definitely finished. Air Stevens said he could not ask the Government for further assistance and the company itself was unable to meet the cost of dewatering. An emergency meeting of business people was held last night, when the situation was fully discussed.. Tt was decided to send a deputation to Wellington to a6k for Government assistance. The meeting subscribed £SO towards the expenses of the delegation.
