DOMINION VICTORY

CRICKET WITH SOMERSET. SEVEN WICKETS IN HAND. WALLACE’S FINE DISPLAY. (From the Special Correspondent of tho United Press Association with tho team.) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received July 3, 9.00 a.m. LONDON, July 2.

The New Zealand cricketers beat Somerset by seven wickets with nearly half an hour to spare. The win came ns the result of another wonderful exhibition of free batting by Wallace. .now /jcaland required nearly two runs a minute to win.

Hadlee was enterprising till ho ran himself out. Tindill was just opening out when he played over a good cue. Larson was again dismissed by a catch in the slips. Wallace gave a dazzling display, scoring at express speed. He. hit seven fours and two sixes, including one out of the ground, in the first 50, and altogether eight fours and three sixes. Lamasori, although aggressive when the opportunity offered, wisely let his more clashing partner have most of the howling. The pair added a hundred in 40 minutes after tea.

Soinciset’s second innings was distinguished by a patient century by the left-hander, Lee,, and another great exhibition oi sustained bowling pace bv Cowie, also brilliant catching behind the wickets hv Tindill. Cowie howled nohlv, at lunch his figures reading 21— 4—43—4 against top batsmen on a perfect pitch. Wallace added another to his imposing collection of scalps by run-outs, from cover. Good catches were made by Dunning in the slips and Carson in the long field. Tindill also made two fine efforts on the leg .side, including one in which he had to dash across for several yards.
