By winning the Nursery Stakes at .1 imam'and (lie Sapling Stakes at Ashburton, Two’s Loose finished the season unbeaten, and must Ire acclaimed tin; champion two- ! year-old of the year. He has twice beaten ! Horsepower, who won the North Island Challenge Cup earlier in the year. With his young horses, M. B. Edwards has had a very successful season, tor besides ins successes with Two’s Loose lie also won the All-aged Stakes at Ashburton with Brisco Boy, who looks like developing into a good handicap performer next season. Grand Mogul’s Earnings.

Among tlie biggest stake-earners thin season is Grand .Mogul. He lias started 21 times for six firsts, two seconds, and one third, and lias won £2610 in stakes. Included in his list are tlio King Edward Handicap, Louisson Handicap. Recovery Handicap, Flying Handicap. Easter Handicap, and President s Handicap. Last \ear he won £1127 in stakes. Among the many horses Mr G. J. Barton has bought, Grand Mogul is one of his greatest, bargains. Soon after the gelding won bis first race Mr Barton purchased him for £6C9.

Addington Trainer’s Purchase. The Australian-bred trotting gelding Carl has been purchased by the Addington trainer J. Siebel. Carl won the trotters division in the Australian Derby for throe-year-olds, and the ability lie showed attracted the attention of owners. Among those interested was the late \\. J. lomkinson, and eventually -Mr G. J. Barton purchased the gelding. In private Carl hud shown a lot of speed and he can stay. If ago helps him to gain confidence lie should prove a good investment for his new owner.

Form at Greymouth. Chicftainess was made favourite for both her engagements at Greymouth, and while sho won the June Handicap, of a mile, she met one just too good in Flying Helen when sho contested the Ivaiata Handicap. Tho latter is a six-vear-old marc by Fbring Princo from Helen, and is trained by her owner, L. Workman,'at Rccfton. Flying Princo will be remembered as a very promising two-ycar-old, trained by D. Withers, in 1929; but lie later failed to line ui) to his early promise, and died young. Flying Helen is a well-bred marc, for her sire is by Wrack from Queen Colo (by King Colo —Norice), the dam of Co.cne Pointer. McKay, tho Australian who visited New Zealand with Auburn Lad and Walla Walla, broke a bone in a ' leg recently through a fall when starting. The accident has kept him out of the sulky for some weeks. Full of Promise. Santa Fo lias always possessed plenty of speed, but tho small dividends returned for her win at Ashburton would not repay speculators who had consistently supported the filly. Santa Fe lias breeding behind her, for she is by Wrack from Nell Pointer by Logan Pointer —Gianella, a fine pacer and brood mare. Nell Pointer is the dam of Grand Canyon and Tempest. End of Season. Two trotting events at tho Oamaru Trotting Club’s meeting to-day concluded tho light harness season in the South Island. Generally the season may be regarded as one of the most successful in the last 10 years, for attendances at race meetings have been larger, totalisator investments havo shown a big increase, and receipts from other sources have enabled clubs to offer to owners bigger stakes, save an change. For the coming season tho New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club has already shown its intention of increasing the slakes for its August meeting to £9500, an increase of £2250 on last year’s figures. Inclusion of Trotting Events. With the idea of providing more opportunities for trotters in Auckland the Auckland Owners, Breeders and Trainers’ Association have written to a number of provincial racing clubs asking what could bo done in tlin way of including a couple of trotting events on their programmes. Five clubs have answered favouring the idea, and it is the intention of the clubs concerned to bring the matter before the New Zealand Racing Conference.
