MATERNITY SERVICES

PROGRESS OF INQUIRY. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, July 2. •“It is evident that the need in some eases is so urgent that the committee is giving serious consideration to the question of issuing an interim report to the Government so that action can be taken without delay,” said Dr McMillan, chairman of the eommitte of inquiry into maternity services in an interview to-day. The members of the committee returned to Christchurch last evening after taking evidence and inspecting the hospitals on the West Coast.

Dr. McMillan said it might be three months before the committee would be in a position to present its main report to the Minister of Health, as there was still a large area of the Dominion to be visited, but, in order that the urgent eases could receive immediate attention, it was considering the issuing of an interim report.
