THE RACING.

BRACELET TO CLETRAC

RIDER’S TRIPLE FEAT,

Piloting: Cletrac home first in the Ladies’ Bracelet Handicap, Mr G. Beatson established the unique record of having won the rate for three years in succession. Clerac. who had two minor placings in maiden company recently, was always lying handy and, being not far away at the distance, shot past the leader, Tommy Atkins, to win comfortably. Hirangi was also putting in a late run to beat the tiring pacemaker. Tommy Akins w-as the early leader from Valroy, Hirangi. Cletrac and Aube. Six furlongs from home Aube moved up fast and Cletrac was closing up also, but crossing the top Valroy and All Spirit made short-lived efforts to go with the leader, the order half a mile from home being Tommy Atkins, Valroy. All Spirit and Hirangi. Aube, the double winner at Dannevirke, appeared to break down at tills sta.ce and dropped back quickly to a bad last, where lie ultimately finished, some distance behind the field. Tommy Vtkins was first into the straight from Valroy and All Spirit, hut once Cletrac went after the leader he. made short work of the opposition with lus late run on the outside. Hirangi made s promising showing .all the way; Tommv Atkins could not quite see it out. and All Spirit finished a fair fourth. HIGH GRADER SCORES. CHALLENGE STALLED OFF. High Grader, who finished fourth . at Hastings the other day when having his first start after an absence of two years, proved equal to winning the Elaxbourne Hurdle Handicap from the strongly-finishing Tout le Monde after taking the lead at the second fence. Tout le Monde was taken up quickly passing through the straight the first time to attend High Grader, lint the pacemaker was always a couple of lengths in front (and taking his fences well), until Tout le Monde made liis effort after rounding the final turn to close on the leader. High Grader, however, w.as first over the final fence and held off the challenge made all the way up the straight by Tout le Monde. The northerner, Valpai, gave an indifferent display. His jumping was never impressive and be trailed the field all the wav.

Otaki aiul True Shaft were the first to show nut from High Grader, Contact. Tout le Monde and Valpa.i High Grader took charge over the second fence to immediately open up a gap on Otaki. True Shaft and Contact. Tout le Monde made his forward move going through the straight the first time and was attending the pacemaker into the hack, the pair being in front of True Shaft, Ot.aki. Contact and Valpai in that order. High Grader was still in command across the top and began to draw away again two fences from home,, but Tout le Monde wopt after him and was just behind him going into the last fence. High Grader cleared this nice!" but Tout le Monde rapped it hard and, in the struggle up the straight, was unable to get the measure of High Grader. Contact, never very prominent, finished in fourth place, followed by Otaki and Valpai. THE HUNT CUP. GOOD FINISH PROVIDED. Just shaded by Miss Pango for favouritism. Tangled won the Manawatu Hunt Cup nicely from The Ranger. Jumping beautifully, the latter had charge nearly ail the way and it was not until nearly 21 miles of the distance had been covered that Tangled was able to close on the leader and they were running together approaching the last fence. Once over, Tangled drew out to beat The Ranger in the run to the post. Miss Pango, last year's winner, went a good race until she began to tire about five furlongs from home when the pressure was on. Hunting Boy, whose rider had been saving a lot of ground, got up a short distance from the post to beat Miss Pango for third money. Gaineford went to the front at the start, from Tangled, The Ranger and Miss Pango, but going to the first fence The Ranger had charge from the others. The Ranger led Miss Pango. Tangled and Gainsford over the double brush the first time down the straight and coming around the second time was still well clear of Miss Pango Tangled and Hunting Boy, Gainslord having dropped back.. Tangled moved up to second place going into the back for the last time and Miss Pango also made a. forward move, the pan - bo |n K j list, behind The Ranger. The effort, however, proved too much for Miss Pango and Tangled went on to catch The Ranger three furlongs from home. TVv had a neck and neck race until. Piicf over the last fence. Tangled was „!,]*. to draw away and win by three

lengths. Spearson tailed the field all tho way, but all the contestants finished after a good exhibition of jumping.

IMPRESSIVE WIN. BRIG ADORE JUMPS WELL. Brigadorc, who was unlucky enough to fall when ho was challenging Clarion Call in the final two furlongs of the steeplechase at Wanganui, on the second day, scored an easy win in the Awapuni Steeplechase and appeared even then to finish with something in reserve. Always prominent, he was kept in behind tlie pacemakers until five furlongs from home, when he quickly jumped to the front and started to draw out from Forest Glow and Lucidus. Brigadore cleared his obstacles beautifully, gaining ground at every jump. Forest Glow was just behind him coming to the second to last fence, when he lost his rider at the jump and Padnos, who had never been prominent beforo moved lorward smartly over the last half-mile and finished in second place, bringing off something of a surprise. He was ten lengths ahead of Lucidus, the Bay of Plenty Steeplechase winner. Lucidus was the first to show out from Padros, Riotous, AVykemist, Brigadorc and Forest Glow, but going into the back stretch the second time Lucidus was the pacemaker from Forest' Glow, and Brigadore. AVykemist made .an unsuccessful attempt to go with them. Forest Glow temporarily took charge, but Lucidus was again in charge from Brigadore passing through the straight the second time. Riotous, who had moved up soon dropped back to last and five furlongs from home the order was Forest Glow, Lucidus and Brigadore. The latter then went to the front and began to draw away, his only serious challenger being Forest Glow, whose rider, W. J. McDowell, was unseated at the second to last fence. Riotous finished fourth. McDowell, though removed in the ambulance, was not seriously injured.

TAITORU SUCCESSFUL. INTERNATIONAL’S LATE RUN. Taitoru followed up liis good finish with his customary dash to win the Palmerston North Handicap from International who, slow to get away, made a late run in an attempt to catch the leader. Le Grand, who was the early pacemaker into the straight, was beaten into third place. Le Grand led Taitoru. Taillight, Gay Boy, International and Rona Bay from the start, this being the order practically into the back straight. Half a mile from home Rona Bay made a forward move on the outside and, with Gay Boy, was going up to the front as Le Grand came round the final bend in charge from Taitoru, Taillight and International. However, they did not go on with it and Taitoru came through to catch Le Grand at the distance, International coming fast with a lato ran into second place. Taillight ran a good race into fourth place. DETAILED RESULTS. LADIES’ BRACELET HANDICAP. of £75; second horse £ls and third £7. One and a quarter miles. 2 Mr G. D.
