STATE PRINTING.
WORK OUTGROWS PLANT. NEW UNDERTAKING PLANNED. (Ly Telegraph.— Special to Standard.) WELLINGTON, July 1. The Government printing office, a very old brick building, is to be superseded as soon as possible by a more extensive establishment the plans for which are practically ready. Although the site lias not been finally adopted, it is probable that one not far from the present building, and still quite convenient to Parliament Building, will be adopted, the matter being one for arrangement with another Government department.
“The present printing office,” stated Hon. P. C. Webb (Minister in charge of the Government Printing Department), “is completed overcrowded. It employs 540 hands, but it is unable to cope with all the work offered from State departments, and it is impossible to instill more machinery in the old overcrowded building. Much printing work has consequently to be done by contract outside. 'The Government has therefore decided to build a really modern well-equipped printing works on a more spacious site, and to go ahead as early as possible, for the printing work of the State is growing every day.”
