WATER FROM TIRITEA.
NEW MAIN EXTENSION. FINAL SECTION LAID. The final section of the 2J miles of 21-inch concrete-lined steel main to replace the pipes at present in service over that length, and designed to improve tho water pressure from Tiritea, has been laid. Though this does not mark the completion of the full length to Tiritea, it is the last of the work authorised under the £14,300 loan for the purpose of replacing a substantial length of the existing smaller main, in pursuance of the objective of ultimately replacing this over its whole length, and is the most important major work carriod out for a period of years so far as what may be termed strictly reticulation improvements are concerned. It was found possible to construct, within the estimate, 30 chains more of the main than had originally been contemplated. Only the arrival of the jointing connection to link up with the end of the okl main is awaited before tho new length is put under pressure tests. This will lie a night job, involving the cutting-off of the water supply from Tiritea for a period of about six hours.
