HEALTH LECTURES.
BY SISTER L. EVANS. A particularly interesting health lecture on goitre and diabetes was given by Sister L. Evans, ol London and Australia, the health-specialist who is visiting Palmerston North, in the Kosy Hall, yesterday afternoon. Sister Evans held the keen attention of the audience throughout. Goitre, said Sister Evans, was caused through a deficiency in the system of important cell salts, hut the'' glandular disturbance was brought about bv a lack of iodine, ■ which the thyroid gland readily used. The prevalence of goitre in New Zealand Sister Evans attributed to a lack in the soil of elements which therefore caused fruit and vegetables to be deficient in iodine content. This interfered with the even distribution of lime in the body which caused the thyroid gland to act in an abnormal way. at too great a rate of vibration. To effect a return to normal the only way was to supply the deficient cell salts, which could be done bv the aid of bio-chemistry.
Diabetes was caused by glucose (sugars) becoming uncontrolled in the system and entering the blood as sugars. This was due to a faulty diet with too much starch and sugars, which overworked the pancreatic gland, which in turn caused it to slow down in its action and finally become non-fuhctional. The only thing to do was to re-educate the pancreatic gland by correct diet, health exercises, and deep breathing, and by supplying the missing cell salts. An absorbing lecture on “Astrology as a Guide to Health,” illustrated by' lantern slides, was given by Si6ter Flvans, last night. The purpose of the slides was to show that the different parts of the body are ruled by different zodiacal signs. Sister Evans pointing out that everybody had a great guide as to tlieir particular needs l»y studying their own birthday, the sign in which they were horn, and the ruling planet for the sign. In this way they could ascertain the foods which would be conducive to health for their particular requirements, and also the one inorganic health salt which they would use up more readily than the other eleven. By supplying that deficiencv and keeping an even balance and distribution of these allimportant cells, thev could so enjoy good health as the only compensation of old age.
Sister Evans is giving a special request lecture to-morrow afternoon, which will be an intimate talk to women only. She will shortly commence a health and efficiency class for men and women.
