FATHER NOW GOES TO GAOL

Dr. T. M. Johnstone attended his son’s ordination. “This is my only son’s great day. Mine will be on July 9, when I present myself at the gates of the prison at Belfast,” he said. “I am not looking forward to prison but am content to go for my principles.”

Dr Johnstone, a former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland, was fined £IOO for contempt cf Court in a speech at the General Assembly in Belfast, in which lie criticised the King's Bench Division for granting a new licence He was ordered to be gaoled till he paid the fine, and was told 'he could riot appeal. Dr Johnstone was allowed his freedom to attend the ordination of his son after which lie must surrender himself at the gaol.
