FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.
FIRST ANNUAL DANCE
Allien the first annual dance of the Palmerston North Friendly Societies was belli inthe Municipal Hall, on Wednesday, there was an attendance of about 300. The gathering proved a great success, the dancers being in festive mood and thoroughly enjoying the programme. The smooth running of the danee was a tribute to the Friendly Societies’ Council, headed by the president (Bro. AV. Buchanan) and the secretary (Bro. C. V. Christiansen), who were responsible for the arrangements. y
The hall was attractively decorated for the occasion, gay paper streamers being bung around the walls. Cypress trees (kindly lent by Mr B. 11. Just; were placed on the stage, with streamers lending a bright touch of colour in the back-ground, and in front, where paper roses in shades of pink, _ red, mauve and lemon, were artistically arianged.
i An appeal sent out for more gentlemen to attend resulted in a furthei ! increase in the size of the assemblage. The M.C.’s were Bros. Brisk and She!
■ Simper provided a pleasing interlude, and Sisters C. Edwards'a ml Kells were assisted in dispensing it by a willing band of ladies.
| The • opportunity was taken bv the president to thank Mr J. A T . Kyle for broadcasting part of the dance programme, and the Palmerston North Indoor Bowls Association for postponing tlu-ir gathering to avoid a clash of dates.
It is proposed to hold n similar danee next year, when it is hoped that the function will be an.even greater success.
