GUESTS OF LICENSEES.
CASE IN APPEAL COURT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. July 1. The question of hotel licensees’ bona fnle guests being on the premises durum prohibited hours and, incidentally, simply in g them with liquor was raised j n the Appeal Court which is hearing the case of William Mackenzie versus William John Harper'. Lillian Mackenzie, wife of appellant was convicted and fined at Christchurch by Air E. C. Levvc-y, S.M. on a charge of supplying liquor after hours at Tattersalls Hotel. Defendant pleaded not guilty. Tlie Magietrate found as a fact that the persons supplied were at tile time bona fide guests of Airs Mackenzie. He was.compelled to follow a Supreme Court decision in 192 G although he disagreed ' T The l appeal was taken against this finding on the ground that it was er--ISargent, for appellant, said the questions-for the Court to determine were i * * . -» (1) Whether appellant- committed an offence under the Licensing Act. 1908, section 200, and ~ (2j Whether a. licensees wife can have bona fide guests during prohibited hours and. incidentally, provide them with liquor. .
