The organisation of farm labourers into unions had been progressing in the W’ellington and Hawke’s Bay districts. Protests against new valuations had been lodged by many farmers in the Alanawatu district. One settler at, Oban had staled to a “Standard” reporter that the value of his property had risen 650 per cent. A contract for the formation of the proposed Bunnythorpc-Kairanga road had been let. The London County Council had decided to prohibit ihe contimmnco of living statuary exhibitions at music halls. Speaking at Palmerston North. Air Golrlingham had expressed the opinion that, the Alanawatu Railway Company should continue in competition with the Government for if the town was to ever become a city there was a necessity for cheap freights to allow local industry to keep pace with industry in coastal towns. Mr FT. G. Hammond had purchased the Oroua Downs estate of 2000 acres from Air J. H. Gibbs.
