GLEN OROUA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) GLEN 0110UA, Juno 26. Tho monthly • meeting of the School Committee was held in the school room, when there were present Messrs W. Foster (chairman), J. Herdnian (secretary), 11. W. Carter, A. T. Bailey, F. Webb, and S. G. Barlano (head teacher). '1 he Education Board’s architect advised that he would bo in the district sliorl*y and would meet the committee. It was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to Mr I. W. Mudford, Eoxton, the newly elected board member for the district. Mr Mud lord is also to be asked to meet the committee at his convenience. The head teacher reported that two panes of glass were required for the windows, and the junior room radiator required attention. Mr llcrdinan promised to attend to these matters, and Mr Bailey agreed to repair the windows. Uhe teacher was authorised to obtain a supply of books for the sen.or class libraries. Ihe iortnightly euchre party and dance of tho social club was well attended. Iho ladies’ euchre prizes were won by Mrs Mahoney (Wanganui) and Miss Pearson, while the successful gentlemen were Messrs J. Crcaven and A. J. Carroll. A spot waltz was won by Miss D. fruUJvuii and Mr G. Hobbs. Mr L. 11. Ihle was M.C. for the dance, lor which extras were played by Mr 11. O’Connor. r llio local schoolboys participated m the To Kawau Sub-Union’s seven-aside Rugby tournament at Oroua Downs and were successful in annexing the Reeve Cup tor primary schools. The team consisted oi (J Webb (captain), R. Mudford, W. Garner, R. Murphy, F. Carter, N. Ihle, J. Webb, and I. Parlane (reserve). In the first game against Bainessc Glen Oroua won 10 to nil, while they beat llnngiotu 11 to nil. The final agu:nst Kopane was won 5 to nil. Tries were scored by C. Webb (2), R. Murphy (3), and R. Mudford, while R. Mudford converted throe and C Webb one. Yesterday aftornuon the school fifteen played a competition match against Kungotea school at Glen Uroua, and were successful by 14 points to nil. Tries wore scored by R. Mucltord (2), C. Webb and N. Ihle, while R. Mudford converted one. Mr E. Cornwall refereed. The girls’ basketball team journeyed to Rongotea to play a match against tho Rongotea girls, but were dclcated by 9 goals to three. Next week’s matches will be”with tho Rangiotu teams. Mrs W. C. Scott, who was recent.y discharged from hospital in Palmerston North, is recuporating at Plimmerton. Messrs W. Scott, junr., M. Morrissey and L. Thompson are on a motor tour of the Hawke’s Ray, Waikato and Auckland dis tricts. Mr and Mrs 11. A. Prebble, of Kamo, Whnngarci, and formerly of Glen Oroua, are at present visiting Glen Oroua after attending the wedding of their sou, Mr I. L. Prebble. Mr and Mrs G. ProbbJo, of Auckland, Miss M. Prebble, and Mr N. Prebble, of Kamo, are also in tho district. Mr E. 11. Lange, the Wanganui Education Board’s agricultural instructor, visited the school on Wednesday.
