PAHIATUA. June 29. The members of the Makomako Women’s Institute recently foregathered for the prostitution to Mrs H. L. Eddie, who is leaving the district shortly, of a token of their esteem. Mrs W. G. Eising spoke of the seven years of willing service which had been rendered bv Mrs Eddie to the institute, during the greater part of which time she had been a committee member and holding the office of vice-president foi some years. Mr Eddie had also given generous help to the movement. Mrs Eddie was presented with a posy of violets and a gift from her sister members of a suit case. Mr F. C. Ebbett presided at a public presentation to Mr and Mrs Eddie and Miss G. Eddie when the guests of honour were asked to accept gifts of a travelling rug for Ml* Eddie, a silver cake-dish for Mrs Eddie, and a bedroom clock for Miss Eddie, who was the recipient also of a oosv. Mr and Mrs A. R. Wylie left lastevening for a short visit to Hawera. N.G. Bro. E. McKenzie was in the chair at a recent meeting of the Loyal Mangatainoka Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F. Invitations to attend social evenings were -received from tho Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge. Carterton, and from the Loyal Woodvilie Lodge. The New Zealand Friendly Societies Mutual Fidelity Guarantee Association wrote inviting the lodge to bo represented at its jubilee social, stating that it desired to make some tangible recognition of the services of its chairman, who has completed forty years’ service to the association. It was decided to make a donation to assist this objective. N.G. Bro. McKenzie presented P.G. Bro. I. Algio with a past officer’s emblem. The monthly meeting of the Pahiat.ua District ‘High School Committee was presided over by Mr G. G. Inyloi. Members stood in silence out o respect for the late Mir W. TL Richardson. The chairman’s action in notifying the Department of Health that the High School would he willing to pay its share for the extra assistance necessitated at the local dental clinic owing to the interruption during the term was endorsed. The headmaster stated that the school would he closed from Julv 19 to July 23. inclusive, to enable the teachers to attend a conference at Wellington.
