SCOTS CONCERT

FOII PIPE BAND QUEEN

A Scots concert organised by the Feilding Pipe Band’s Queen Carnival Committee was held on Saturday and was well attended. All tastes were catered lor'and every item was well received. The artists included visitors from Wellington, Marton, Masterton and Palmerston North, besides local talent. Tap dance duos by two diminutive artists from Palmerston North, Patricia Dale and Neil Bruce, were a feature.

The first twenty minutes were 6pent in community singing led by Mr W. Mann, of Masterton, baritone, and accompanied by Mr M. Hope, of Masterton. Before the concert commenced a hearty welcome was extended to those present by the chief (Mr Donald G. Fraser) of" the Feilding Caledonian Society, after which he introduced Miss .Tov' Duncan, the Pipe Band Queen. Afr Fraser explained the objects of the carnival, remarking that the band in-

tended to use their share of the proceeds for the purpose of buying a number of new imiforms. He concluded by acknowledging several donations. Chief McKenzie Douglas, of Masterton, congratulated the members of the band on the success of the function and thanked those present for the reception they had given the Masterton performers.

The programme was opened with selections played by the Feilding Pipe Band. Other items were: Songs, Air William Mann (Alasterton); Heel o’ Tulloch and Highland fling, Aliss June Scott’s pupils (Palmerston North), Accompanied by Pipe-Alajor H. AVa.tts; humorous one-act play, “The Farm Boy,” All's Aliller, Alies AlcCracken and Alaster Boland Miller; pipe selection, march, Strathspey, reel, Piper AlcLeieh (leader of the Alaster-| ton Pipe Band); Irish jig, Aliss Scott’s pupils, accompanied b Pipe-Alajor H. Butler; vocal duet, Air and Airs Jas. Gibson (Alarton); ballet, Aliss Scott’6 j pupils; songs, Aliss Jamieson (Alaster-’ ton); Irish hornpipe, Aliss Scott: songs, Air B. Gmulinger, accompanied by Mr E. Crichton; songs, Air J. Gibson; pipe selection, march, quickstep and Strathspey, Pipers Allan and J. Douglas, Alasterton.
