MANOEUVRING OF CARS. “You will have to learn'how to drive a motor vehicle. AYe have not a driving school here, or 1 might send you uicie, remarked Air J. L. Stout, S.AI., in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, to George Henry Shelley, alter evidence had been given in a case in which he accident involving injury to a person, was charged with failing to report an accident involving injuiy to a person, and with driving a car without due care and attention.
Evidence was given by Aliss Doreen Stuart tnat, without warning, defendant had backed his car out iroin tho iterb and struck the back wheel of her cycle as she was passing. Witness had suffered bruises and aurasions to her .egs, lor whiefi she was still receiving attention. She added that defendant did not back out m tlie ordinary.; way, out against the line of traffic. The Magistrate commented that this was an indication of bad driving, and was a practice very noticeable in Palmerston North.
Deiondi.iit, in evidence, claimed that there had ready been no accident, as tie Itad understood iroin the girl that she was. not hurt. He described to the Alagistrate how he had manoeuvred his ca r.
Defendant was fined £l, with 24s costs, on tne first charge, and £l, with ,tUs costs, on the second.
