HEALTH LECTURE.

SISTER L. EVANS. An interesting- lecture, "Nature s Way to Health. ’ was giyen by Sister L. Evans, A.T.N.A.. LL.C.M., of London and Australia, as the first of a series of lectures, in the Kosy Hall last evening. Sister Evans has completed a successful tour of Australia and is now visiting New Zealand, and last night her remarks were followed with keen interest.

Hospitals to-day were full to overflowing, said Sister Evans at the outset. Aluch was heard about disease, operations, etc., but it was the study of how to live healthy lives that was required more than the study of disease. For centuries people had been working along certain lines towards cure rather than prevention, and everywhere the largest buildings were found to be hospitals filled with dependent people. The body was a unit and when it was allowed to fall into decay through ignorance then the person concerned had to consent to the loss of certain organs. Instead of this destruction there should he a reconstruction of the body, and that which was lacking in the system should he supplied. It was most important to co-operate with Nature in this reconstruction work. Sister Evans outlined briefly the science of numbers at the juncture. She stated that it was more natural to be well than ill and excellent health was within the reach of everyone. The great importance of correct food combinations in diet was mentionend and the speaker stressed that carbohydrates and proteins should never he served together. Malignant growths were the ultimate results of faulty diet. AYi tli the aid'of charts the digestive and nervous systems and bone structure of the body were described. As all digestion began in the mouth it was most essential to have a clean, wholesome mouth and the food should he well masticated, said Bister Evans. The food value of vitamins, vegetables and meat depended largely on the nature of the soil and the climatic conditions of a country. The prevalence of goitre in New Zealand was referred to and this was attributed to some definite deficiency. At the conclusion Sister Evans gave a happy interpretation of a scene from “As You Like It” and showed lantern slides following her address. Questions from the audience were also answered in a capable manner. To-night at B'o’clock Sister Evans will speak on prcventible disease.
