"RAINBOW FAIR,”
HELD BY GIRL CITIZENS. On Saturday evening the Y.W.C.A. Girl Citizens’ Club held a “Rainbow Fair,” in the club-rooms. The fair was officially opened by Mrs Jamieson, a member of the board, who congratulated the Girl Citizens on the transformation of the assembly hall into a fairyland of colours and such purposeful activity as was in evidence. Each section of citizens was responsible for a stall, decorated according to ihe colours of the rainbow, and a competition for the best decorated stall at a cost of not more than Is was won by the Bluebird Section (blue). Magpie Section (red) were second, and the Seeker Section (purple) were third. A cooking and handwork competition resulted as follows : —Sponge : B. Cutten (Seeker) 1, L. Larsen (Magpie) 2. Shortbread: B. Cutten (Seeker) 1, M. Morrison (Bluebird; 2, J. Judd (Magpie) 3. Afghans: J. Brady (Good Companions) 1, J. Gilberd (Magpie) 2, M. Dunstan (Olympic) 3. Scones: D. Murrow (Olympic) 1, A. Pederson (Seeker) 2. G. Downie (Magpie) 3. Toffee: D. Ward (Magpie) 1, L. Proctor (Bluebird) 2. Date creams: L. Proctor (Bluebird) 1, A. Nash (Seeker) 2. Sack work: Olwyn Ferguson (Good Companions) 1, June Watkins (Bluebird) 2, Joan Moore (Seeker) 3. Fancy work: Audrey King (Olympic) 1. P. Wilson (Olympic) 2, A. Nash (Seeker) 3. Stuffed toy: A. Black (Seeker) 1. A. Wilson (Nomad) 2. D. Judd (Magpie) 3. Knitted article: J. Gilberd (Magpie) 1, M. Coll is and E. Eaton (Nomad) 2. Points of 5,3, and 1 were given for first, second and third places in each of these classes and as a result the Magpie section secured 27 points, Seekers 25 points, Bluebirds 21 points. Olympics 17 points, Good Companions 10 points, and Nomads 9 points. During the evening the following girls gave a physical drill display :■ J. Judd, A. Black. M. Morrison, J. Hassell, J. Gilberd, JL Ferguson, P. Wilson, A. Wilson, and M. Forrest. Miss L. Jordan presided at the piano. In connection with this fair the Girl Citizens have been running a queen carnival. Each section chose a queen and for several weeks the girls have been busy securing penny votes for their own section’s queen. In a short ceremony, arranged by Miss R. Lees, Joyce Gilberd, ol the Magpie section, was crowned the winning queen In this ceremony Betty Cutten (Chief Citizen) acted as the Lord High Chancellor and crowned the queen, while 0. Ferguson, A. Viilson. M. Morrison. A. Black and L. 1 urcell were Maids-in-Wraiting. J. Judd and D. Ilarrod were pages and R. Hatton and P. Wilson were heralds. It is very gratifying to see the junior members of ihe Y.W.C.A taking a responsibility in regard to tile finances, and their efforts realised £l6.
