COLLEGE STREET SCHOOL
MEETING OB' COMMITTEE. The first meeting of ihe new College Street School Committee was held last evening. There were present; Mrs Bidden-Jones and Messrs E. V. West (chairman), H. 0. Le Grange, W. Oliver, A. J. Daley and C. L. Turnbull. The headmaster (Mr W. A. Swinbourn) reported as follows: “There are now 537 pupils on the roll, the average attendance for the week being 608.3. Work iB well under way and there is a good deal of leeway to make up. I would ask the Committee to again approach the board regarding the extension of the cloakroom accommodation, and also to apply for some additions to the teachers’ sitting room, both as regards room and convenience. Ido not - propose to hold a concert at the Opera House at the end of the year, and I am cutting out anything that will take Up the pupils' school time or distract their attentioh from their, school work. Instead, I propose to hold in the assembly room at the school one or two Concerts towards the end of each term, making use of the work done bv Mr IlUnnicTes in his weekly lessons. ’ —The report was adopted. A letter was received from the Hokowhitu school asking support With regard to urging the department to insert in the school journals warning to the children against live tension wires.—lt was decided to support the Hokowhitu School in its action^ It was decided to hold a meeting of householders on Friday, May 8, for the purpose of forming a ladies’ committee in connection with the forthcoming school ball. Mrs Briden-Jones anti Messrs Oliver and Daly were appointed a visiting committee for the month. Accounts amounting to £2 11s were passed for payment.
