MOTORISTS WARNED.
MAGISTRATE SPEAKS OUT.
LICENSES. MAY BE CANCELLED.
HAWERA, April 30. Every motorist who travels over tha roads in the Taranaki and Wanganui districts will be vitally interested in a declaration by Mr J. S. Barton, 8.M., regarding his intentions of dealing >vith offenders against the motor regulations. According to press reports, said Mr Barton at tha sitting of the court at Hawera to-day, a deputation consisting chiefly of the Wanganui Law Society waited on the Minister for Justice (the Hoi. Sir James Parr/ at Wanganui, asking that he (Mr Barton) be allowed to remain the whole of his time in Wanganui.' The reason for the request was the increased work arising from motor cases. During the month His Worship, at Wanganui, hid dealt with eight motor collision cases, and at least 20 bad cases of traffic offences. In addition to these there were still three collision, cases, waiting to bo heard. In several of these cases serious f injury to persons was. involved y. One remedy, continued Mr Barton, appeared to be for a magistrate to gWb his whole time to hearing the cases, place a deterrent on people who had no right t.» be on the ro»d, or cancel their drivers’lioenses. His' Worship could not see why he should spend two-thirds of his waking hours listening to motor cases and inquests. He intended to cancel the driving licenses of those who came before him and who he thought had no right to drive on the roads.
