SUNDAY TRAINS.
PALMERSTON NORTH TO FOXTON. A DEPARTMENTAL SUGGESTIdN. (From Our Foxton Correspondent.) In conversation with the local stationmaster (Mr H. Horn blow) this morning your correspondent was informed that Mr G. T. Wilson, of the commercial branch of the Railway Department, when in Foxton last week, -displayed much enthusiasm in connection with the Foxton beach. Mr Wilson said he was of opinion that Sunday trains from Palmerston North to Foxton would be worth a trial by his department. Passenger trains could be rug during the summer months to arrive at about 10 a.m., and leave again for Palmerston North at, say, 5 p.m. The run could be done in an hour, as the only stops would be to pick up passengers en route. Arrangements could also probably be made for trains to be run to allow passengers from Marten ana Fr-ilding to connect, at Palmerston North. The only difficulty tWt woolcl present itself would be the transport of passengers from Foxton to the beach, but lie considered this could easily bo overcome by a little negotiation on his part with local carrier 3 and the arrangement of a flat rate fc: this part of the journey. Of course, should such a proposition be given a trial and found to be a financial success, it would only bo a matter of time before a light railway je would be run from Foxton to the Heads. As it was, tho tiepertinent was quit© prepared to meet passengers with reduced, fares. In concirsiem he said he did not see why such a scheme should not Bo a success and beneficial to both his department and ro sidents of Foxton and surrounding dis tricts.
