INDIA SATISFIED.

CRICKET BALLS AND PIG IRON. THE NEW FEATURES. LONDON, April 8. The Simla correspondent of the Times says that Australia’s cancellation of the dumping duties on cricket balls and pig-iron is regarded with satisfaction, although the imposition due to gn obvious misunderstanding concerning the rupee was ascribed in the Indian Legislature to anti-Indian sentiment. The two articles mentioned in the cable were brought under the provisions of section 8 of the Industries preservation (‘ ‘anti-dmpping’ ’) Act last year. The ordinary procedure was followed by the Minister, and there was not the least ground for the suspicion that the move was actuated by “anti-Indian sentiment.” The articles were removed later from the list of items against which tlie section is directed, at the instance of the Minister, whose reasons for their elimination were not disclosed. The assertion that the imposition of the anti-dumping rates of duty was really due to the “an obvious misunderstanding” concerning the rupee rate of exchange, can, therefore, be verified or refuted only by that authority.
