TARIFF NEGOTIATIONS

AUSTRALIA AND CANADA. OTTAWA, April 27. Mr D. H. R-oss, Trade Commissioner, who is now in Ottawa, is to leave for Australia to conduct further negotiations in regard to a treaty. This was announced in the House of Commons by tho Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, who stated that a press dispatch from Melbourne, which stated that Mr Bruce said discussion of the treaty could not he reopened and Australia was awaiting action by the Canadian Parliament, did not represent the facts. Mr King stated that Mr Bruce’s last t;uery regarding changes in the Canadian tariff would be answered very shortly. He pointed out that Australia made it necessary for goods receiving the preferential tariff to bo 75 per cent. British, which regulation was not discussed whon the treaty was drawn up, with the result that Mr Ross was going to negotiate further. —Reuter.
