STEVENSON’S TOMB.

“NOT BEING DESECRATED.”

Refuting charges that Robert Louis Stephenson’s tomb at Apia, Samoan Islands, was being desecrated, Rev. Alex. Hough, of tho London Alissionury Society, who arrived in Sydney by the Sierra a few days ago, said that the tomb was being kept in excellent order. Mr Hough has been in tho islands for 20 years, and is returning with his wife to England on 18 months’ furlough. A fine pathway leads to the tomb along the road of The Loving Heart, which was built by Samoan chiefs out of gratitude to the novelist, said the missionary. Alajor-General Richardson, Governor of the mandated territory, was now living at “Vailima,” the homo of Stevenson. which was thrown open to visitors when boats arrived.
