RUGBY CONTROL.

PROPOSED AMALGAMATION. FOR REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES ONLY. A deputation of representatives of the Horowhenua Rugby Union will await on to-night’s meeting of the management mittee of the Manawatu Rugby Union to urge an amalgamation of the two unions for tlio purpose of playing representative matches.

At last week’s meeting of the southern union, a notice of motion which read as under was presented by the Shannon Club : “That in view of the fact of the Horowlicnua Rugby Union being neither financially nor individually strong enough to warrant the playing of first-grade unions with a reasonable hope of being recognised as a lirst-grade union, a special committee be set up to confer with the Manawatu Rugby Union witli a view of amalgamation with that body for all representative matches, and sunch finances gained from these matches be placed in a separate fund und operated upon by a special committee for the expenses of representative fixtures either at homo or on tour, each union to have equal representatiou on such committee.” Mr Moynilinn, speaking in support of the motion, pointed out that Horowhenua had been in the practice of assisting Manawatu in big fixtures, but save the payment of the players’ expenses tho Horowhenua union had not benefited in any way. It was suggested that representative matches be played oil the basis of two at Palmerston North to every one in Horowhenua. Both unions would, however, retain their separate individuality except in tho case of uniting to play big visiting teams or for touring. Mr Robertshaw supported Mr Moyruhan and suggested that a meeting of two or three delegates from each union should be held to discuss tho matter, the chairman to bo a gentleman outside either body. . Following further discussion, Messrs Moynilian, Robertshaw. Rimmer and the secretary were appointed a committeo to meet the Manawatu union, with power to conclude arrangements provided equal representation was secured.
