OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
THREE DURING WEEK-END
During the week-end the Palmerston North Eire Brigade had to respond to three calls, only one of which, however, was of a serious nature. At mid-day on Saturday a burning haystack was responsible for the first alarm. The conflagration, which was in College street west, was soon extinguished, but most of the iiay was damaged. Shortly before six o’clock the same day the brigade again had to turn out, this time for a burning rubbish heap in Te Awe Awe street. Their assistance, .however, was not required. Yesterday afternoon at about 1.30 o’clock fire broke out in Mr Meadly’s bakehouse in Limbrick street, the seat of the outbreak being in some shavings adjacent to the ovens. On arrival the brigade subdued the flames expeditiously, but not before the back of the building was gutted and the roof over the nearest oven damaged. The damage was covered by insurance and was not extensive enough to prevent baking operations from being resumed last night.
