R.S.A.
ANNUAL MEETING. A SATISFACTORY YEAR. The annual meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the R.S.A. was held last evening in the club rooms, when the president, Mr B. J. Jacobs, presided over an attendance of soma 50 members. ANNUAL REPORT. The annual report, which has been published, was read and adopted on the motion of tho chairman, seconded by Mr F. Stevons. In formally moving its adoption tho chairman, in referring to tho activities of tho association, took tho opportunity to read a letter of appreciation from a return soldier who had been materially aided in the rectifying of his personal allairs in the matter ot pension, etc. The membership of tho association had, ho continued, witnessed a general revival, and if the returned men would rally round their association, which had after all only their own interests at heart, if was quite possible for the association to attain tho rank of the second largest in New Zealand. To date the opinion entertained for the association by tlie public had been all that could bo desired, and ho did not hesitate to say that the local association enjoyed a reputation higher than any other m Now Zealand. During the past parliamentary session tho association had been successlul in having a clause inserted in ail Act passed by Parliament entitling the patriotic society to hand over to the association tho sum of £o3Q odd io form tho nucleus of a benevolent fund for the tinuncial assistance of distressed soldiers and dependants in tho district. The success attained had been largely duo lo tho energy of tho executive aided by the member for tho district, Mr J. A. Nash. It was the intention of tho association to control such fund and a small committee iiad been set up with power to distribute sums to the extent of £5. Amounts over and above such would, however, be referred to the full executive. At present tho money was invested in bonds and until such time as the fund w'as depleted, payments would be made from the general account and, when tho expenditure was considered suibcient to merit such action, some of the bonds would be converted. Tho prucceds of the Poppy Day eirort would also go to augment the fund, concluded the st eaker. FINANCIAL PO-HTION
The treasurer, Mr W. C. Harrington, presented the statement of accounts which rovoaled that the club’s trading account had returned a debit balance of £2 8s Id on the year’s working; the general account had opened with a credit balance ot £351 9s lOd and had closed with a balance of £402 7s lid; the income and expenditure showed a credit balance of £44 4s lOd, while the accumulated funds of tho association amounted to £1427 19s sd. Following the detailing of tho respective accounts, Mr Harrington formally moved their adoption, stating that the year’s working could bo considered most satisfactory. . Tiio chairman, in seconding the motion, explained that, owing to an amount of interest which was due, but which had not been credited in the balance-sheet, the club account should have shown a credit balance of £32 odd, instead of a debit of £2 8s Id.
