UNEXPLORED JUNGLE
HOPES OF GREAT DISCOVERIES. THE LIGHT THAT NEVER GOES OUT. (By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received April 24. 11.15 a.in. VANCOUVER, April 23. A message from Cuyaba (Brazil) states that Major-Goneral William Eavycett and party have started on their journey into the unexplored jungle. Major-General Fawcett says that their hopes of making great discoveries have been raised by recent incidents. An Indian of the forest was recently taken to Cuyaba and shown the local churches. The Indian said; “This is nothing. In my forests are buildings bigger and loftier by far than this. They have doors and windows of stone. Tho inside is lit by a great square crystal on a pillar, and it shines so brightly that it dazzles the eyes.” “This tale reflects the Indian legend of the light that never goes out,” adds Major-General Fawcett, “and supports the theory that the ancient South Americans had a system of artificial lighting by rays possibly unknown to modern science. Other Indians told of a building, tower-like but partly fallen, from the doors and windows of which thero always shines a light. This building lies on our route and within a few days’ journey of where we found numerous stones bearing inscriptions and pictures obviously made with metal tools, the resemblance to the ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs being striking.—Sydney Sun cnble.
