ARCHBISHOP JULIUS.

FAREWELL AT CHRISTCHURCH. Per Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, April 23. Six thousand Reople attended to-night’s public farewell to Archbishop Julius in fvipg Edward barracks, Dean Carrington presiding.

The Mayor (Mr J. A. Flesher) said Archbishop .Julius wus almost an institution in Christchurch, and tho deep interest he had taken in the city’s welfare for 35 years made the citizens feel a personal loss. Bishop Brpdie was to have spoken, but the death of Father Riorden at Ross called him away, llis Lordship wired apologies and congratulated Archbishop Julius on his long episcopal life and wisiied him many years tp encourage, with his sympathetic interest, the ecclesiastical, charitable and civic activities with which in his long life he had been so happily associated. Archdeacon Haggitt spoke for the clergy, the Rev. Patchett for the other churches, and Mrs Roberts for the women of the diocese.

Mp H, I>. Andrews, the Diocesan Chancellor, presented a wallet of notes on behalf of the laity. The Archbishop replied in reminiscent vepi. He "said he was a New Zealander, though born in London, aaiff felt if New Zealand ever forgot God it would not be Worth preserving. He appealed to parent? to protect their children against evil.
