AUSTRALIA AND CANADA.
TREATY NEGOTIATIONS. Received April 23, 8.5 a.m, OTTAWA, April 21. Mr Stevens, a member of the House of Commons for Vancouver, to-day urged that some definite statement on the Aus-tralian-Canadian treaty be made, stating that trade between tho two countries is being affected by the uncertainty prevailing.
The Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, replied that it was hard to suy definitely when tho negotiations would be concluded; they were still continuing concerning certain changes. The Canadian newspapers have printed a despatch quoting Air Bruce (Premier of Australia) as saying ho knew of no reason why Canada did not conclude the agreement.
Air Mackenzie King, commenting thereon, said lie could not understand liiow Mr Bruce could have made such a statement, as ho must know that cables were passing daily between the two Governments with regard to the changes mentioned. —A. and N.Z. cable.
