FINE OF TWO HUNDRED POUNDS. AUCKLAND, April 21. At the Police Court tio-day Janies Johnson, aged 46, was fined £2OO for carrying on the business of a bookmaker at the Avondale racecourse yesterday. Tlie police stated that the accused was a man worth £9OOO, but lie was carrying on bookmaking in a small way. Tlie defence was that the accused only made a hook with friends, but his clients included a policeman.
