HOCKEY ASSOCIATION.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. Tho first meeting for the season of tho management committee of the Manawatu Hockey Association was held last evening, Mr F. Cousins presiding. ' The New Zealand Association wrote advising that arrangements were being made to hold the shield competition in Wellington this year.
An enquiry from the Tiki Hockey Club, Wanganui, as to whether games could be arranged against some of the Manawatu clubs was held over until tlie local clubs are affiliated.
Application for affiliation of Saturday and Wednesday teams was made by the newly-formed West End Old Girls’ Club. The private secretary of the Prime Minister wrote thanking tho association for its letter of sympathy in his illness. Mrs M. Aitchison wrote accepting the pod lion of vice-president, and forwarded a donation.
A letter was received from tlie Dannevirke Sub-Association enquiring whether any Manawatu men’s teams would compote at a seven-a-side tournament to bo held on Saturday, May 2. —It was decided to send a copy of the letter to all the clubs affiliated.
A meeting of men supporters of hockey is to be called for tho purpose of forming Wednesday and Saturday competitions. It was decided to open the season with a seven-a-side- tournament oil May 6, entries to close on April 25. Medals will be presented to the champion men’s team by Messrs Cliffe and Remington. Season team fees were fixed as follow: Ladies, £3 3s; men, £6 7s. It was decided to lodge a challenge for the Nopera Cup. Tile following additional officers were elected: Treasurer, Mr C. Aitchison; selection committee, men’s, Messrs Aitchison (chairman), Nasmith and Hostick ; ladies', Messrs Broughton (chairman), Matthews and Cousins; fixture committee, Messrs Cunningham, Harvey and Wall; postponement committee, Messrs Broughton, Cousins and Harvey; finance committee, Messrs Crump, Blackbourn and Kerslake; entertainment committee. Messrs Hostick, Chapman and Matthews; grounds committee, Messrs Reeve, Blackbourn and Scott.
Accounts amounting to £6 14s were passed for payment. HOCKEY REFEREES. ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual meeting of the Manawatu Hockey Referees’ Association was held last evening, Mr J. Reeve presiding. Tho annual report stated that tho financial membership had been increased from eight to fifteen. During the year the committee lost three valuable members in Meesrs Lye, Fitt and Tucker, who hud left tho district. Tho first-named was appointed a life member of tho association. Owing to the referees having U> travel out of town more frequently the expenditure was heavier than in the previous two years. Copies of tho rules were sent to the various schools, while referees from the association controlled many of the school competition games. The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follow President. Mr A. R. Clilfe; vice presidents. Messrs V. Goldfinch, C. Aitchison, J. K. Pat-on, M. H. Oram and L. Giorgi; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr 11. IJ. Milne; delegate to the Manawatu Hockey Association, Mr J. Reeve; management committee, Messrs W. Nasmith, W. Broughton, F. Harvey, W. Crump and 11. Hamilton; appointment committee, Messrs Cliffe, Milne and Aitchison.
