FUTURE NEW ZEALANDERS.

300 EMIGRANTS ARRIVE. This morning’s south-bound Alain trunk express carried as passengers a lair percentage' of the 3UO emigrants brought out to New Zealand by the Athenic which berthed at Auckland at the week-end. The greater number of those aboard the train were of Scottish descent and show every promise of proving very desirable citizens. In conversation with some of the travellers, a “Standard” reporter was informed that the party had enjoyed an excellent voyage out, the trip being devoid of excitement. Sir John Luke, of Wellington, who was a passenger, took the opportunity to address the new citizens on the life and conditions of the country they were about to enter, the information being appreciated by his hearers. Of the passengers, our informant stated, a largo number remained in the Auckland province, and of the southern party the majority would settle in Wellington. However, some 40 intended proceeding as far south as Dunedin, where positions' already await them. The speaker was, ho added, proceeding to work in connection with the South Seas Exhibition buildings now in course of erection on the reclaimed area of Lake Logan, while a companion was reporting to the Dunedin Master Builders’ Association. Of the female complement, some 40 were domestic servants and it was anticipated that there would bo little difficulty for them to find places. All were pleased with their first impressions of New Zealand and were looking forward to the day when they could call themselves fully fledged citizens.
